Asian hair cut HELP for 7 year old daughter?

My 7 Year old daughter (almost 8) has been growing her hair for more than a year so she can donate it to Locks of Love and a child who needs a wig due to hair loss (chemo and other ilnesses) can have one made from her hair.

My daughter is 1/2 Fillipino and has typical Asian hair... pin straight, no curl but beautiful color.

She's growing out her bangs and is ready "for something new" as she puts it. She's NOT a girly girl, she plays softball is a rock climber and swimmer.

Any ideas on how to cut it beyond the usual little Asian girl bob? Any links would be helpful for pics.

one thing that might look good is if you curl it with a curling iron, spritz some hairspray (very little) in your hair, then brush it out. this will create volume and body, also giving it a very sexy curvy shape. afterwards, just finger style and you will look great!

Somewhere they don't charge the full amount for the cuts and style. At least the hair cut. Every three years I donate 2 1/2 feet to 3 feet of hair for the children. It's about that time! I recommend calling the salons in your area and asking them since Locks of Love stopped listing them. A lot of salons will offer free or half price cuts if you donate.

Locks of Love used to list participating salons on its website, but unfortunately, they've stopped doing that. Participating salons sometimes have a decal. The best thing to do would be to call the salons in your area and ask.

I had really long and wavy/curly hair. I got it all cut off last weekend. I love it! I got it cut a little shorter than my shoulders. They layered it and I have lond side bangs, so they're not all in my face. I really like it. I think you would too. I also have brown hair. So, I think it would look good, since mine does.

I reccomend finding a a groomer that has a private shop. A home envirnment. It will take a few times or more maybe...but you must be consistant. ASk questions of your groomer....HAVE you been to school for grooming...and not a petco or petsmart school. An actual accredited grooming school. That type of groomer is educated to handle your type of problem. I have been grooming for over 28 years and have yet to meet ANY dog of ANY size/shape/personality that I could not groom...oh yes...I did go to an accredited school. Be consistent. Find a groomer that shows kindness. Also dont trust a groomer that doesnt own a dog himself/herself.

i would call a professional groomer, one that has a LOT of experience w/poodles, and w/dogs that are not "groom happy".

then i would invest in a good muzzle! always muzzle your dog, don't leave that up to the groomer. you can also ask your vet if there is anything he can subscribe to make your pet less anxious.

Get a clipper set, most stores like walmart/k-mart sell them for a cheap price. They come with attachments depending on how close to the skin you want depends on which attachment to use. A number 1 being the closest. Longer on top and shorter at the bottom you would do a fade in which you would use 1-2-3 as an example. Also a great hair product for beginners would be a flow-bee** it does all the work for you basically. It has a vaccum affect while it cuts the hair. And if this doesnt help go to your local baber shop or beauty solon for a cheap hair cut, they really can't mess it up... when using the clippers. Sorry if im not much help.

I have the same hair as you. Try getting long side bangs. The longer your hair is, the longer you want ur side bangs. To style, all you need is a blow dryer and a flat brush comb.

Blow dry your hair to fluff it and then then brush your hair over. It will give ur hair more volume.

At school i wanted to prove a point that hair didn't matter to this hair insulting *****, but i took off my WHOLE, GROWN OUT FRINGE! Then i decided i wanted a new style so that the cut off fringe wouldn't be so noticable. My friends helped me even out the back where i'd cut off all my beautiful long hair. My friend is getting me a really thick ribbon to hid the horrid fringe that leaves me with a bald spot, but i dont know what to do to make it look better. I think the short fringe looks cool the way it makes a tuft, but the bals spot ISN'T good! Anyway to cover it up, or do anything else to my hair to get rid of this disaster? I love the style its gone into, but the whole fringe thing... BLEURGH!

I think your best bet would be to go to a salon near by and have them tidy up your hair. Tell them to keep it the same style, tell them what you like about it, and tell them what to fix.

Also, if you like bows or cute barrettes you can cover the spot with those. Or you can wear a headband if that'll work.

I did the same thing several years ago. I used ribbons and headbands to fix my fringe though I didn't have a bald spot. Another cool thing you coud do is use funky scarves. In a few weeks you will be able to work with it again!

I think it's a great idea. You save money, and you might just end up with a unique and original look. The more you do it, the better you'll get, until you can choose your haircut on a whim just like you choose an outfit in the morning.

If it doesn't work out, it's just going to grow back in a couple weeks anyway, so who cares?

well let's see. If I want it styled- a new look I have to go to a professional.

But as far as maintaining it or trimming split ends or bangs I do it myself. the trick with wavy hair- I have slightly curly wavy is to: Have plenty of hair clips on hand .part down the center. ponytail the side you're NOT working on. then , take one inch sections one at a time . comb out straight onto your first two fingers and clip your hair on the curve of your fingers. Really long hair this is easy cause you can look at it. if your hair is short look in the bathroom mirror while clipping. Keep working with one inch sections . when done one side- pony tail it off and do same with other side. Good luck.

I shave my head now but I used to cut my own hair when I was a punk rocker. You may think that being an old geezer I shouldn't answer, however I do have something to say:

One problem is that you have to be able to see what your hair is like at the back of your head. My friend's wife used to be pleased with herself for cutting her own hair but the back looked awful; she was going through a bad time, I think.

Another thing is that you shouldn't underestimate are the hairdressing skills that hairdressers learn and practice every week. They can envisage what the style will look like when it's cut, even if they cut the hair is wet. They know how to deal with all types of hair and problem spots.

But as a bloke I do think it's important to feel confident about making little tidy-up trims now and then.

I assume your talking about natural gray/white hair? If you cut them they'll just grow back and if they're white to begin with then you'll just have to cut them again.

I've been advised that the best way to manage white hair is to pull them up with the roots...seems there's a chance that what will grow back is your ordinary hair color.

It would be better if you find out the root (pun intended) cause of your greying hair, you might have vitB deficiency, poor nutrition, anemia, etc. smoking can also cause early greying. Solve those first if you can. If it's genetic and/or aging then your stuck with them.

I let mine alone, they're going to grow whether I want them to or not, so I figure, why fight the inevitable.

I just got back from a disasterous hair cut :(

For a year i have been growing my hair to get ready for the formal which is in about 9 or 10 months. I went to the hair dresser today and asked for 1cm off all over.

I saw big chunks falling onto the ground, like 10cm or more in length. I asked her, rather rudely, what she was doing. She told me she was just lightening it up so it would sit better.

Sometimes you have to reign your stylist in otherwise they thiml they can do whatever the hell they want. I'm sorry about your bad haircut. Make sure you let everyone know how unhappy you are about this stylist. And I would followup by writing the owner of the salon and telling them how unhappy you are, make sure you mention your upcoming formal. You may get some free service with a different stylist there.

Here it is, I'm 19 and my hair line is beginning to rise to where it is noticable. I've always had the same hair cut, kinda medium length. My problem is that I have a big head so a buzz cut probably won't look very good. Any advice? I have a 4 month old English Cocker Spaniel and she is definitly in need of a trim. Growing up I trimmed my parents springapoo, but I always gave him the puppy cut where his hair was all one length. So, I would just like to know how short people usually trim the hair on the backs and heads of their cocker spaniels. I was thinking maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch would look nice, then feathering down the sides to tie in the short and long hair. Any good websites available on a proper trim would be appreciated.

How short to cut my English Cocker Spaniels hair?

Do you have any equipment at home already or are you starting from scratch?

If you are starting from scratch, I recommend going and getting the professional equipment. It might be more of an investment now, but it is sturdy and will hold up the entire life of the dog, especially if well taken care of.

The Eng Cocker trim is a modification of the Am Cocker. They are longer in leg than Am Cockers, and have a less dense coat. I would use a #5, 7, or 8 1/2 blade on the pattern on the back of the dog (this is the saddle), head, tail, neck and down to the begining of the brisquet and top 1/2 to 2/3 of the ear. Length of hair left decreases as the number on the blades increase. I would start with a #5 and see how that looks and if you like it. The length of hair each blade cuts to will be listed on the package as well.

As for the skirt, if you want to keep it short, you could attempt a # 3/4HT on this area, but that will not leave much of a contrast in length when the dog is older. If I were doing the trim, I would use a snap on comb over a #30 blade to trim it down but still leave it looking natural. Snap on combs are available through places like PetEdge. You can buy individual ones or an entire set for variety in lengths for changing seasons.

Definitely need to work on mastering the blending technique. The one sure fire way to get the worst trim possible is the leave a "hard line" where the short saddle and long skirt meet. When clipping the saddle, start at the front of the dog and follow the natural curve of the dogs body and allow the clippers to gently leave off about where you want the skirt to start. This will help make it look smooth and flawless.

And especially for a cocker - don't forget to pluck and clean the ears well. You will also need to trim nails and shave the feet clean. Sanitary trims on the perianal area and groin can be done with a #10 blade and the feet can be done with either a #10 or a #15. Cocker heads and ears can also be done with a #10 but just remember that these cut shorter than the body and you can actually cut the dog with these if they jump or wiggle. You might be better off starting with a longer length on these areas until the pup is accustomed to the whole process.

For the pet cocker, the skirt is easier to deal with if it is shortened up. If shortened up just a bit, it will still look like a cocker.

Personally I like it the way it is. But if you really want to get it cut, I would suggest something maybe 3 1/2 inches or so below your shoulders in the front, angled, and maybe about an inch longer in the back with sideswept bangs that reach just below your eyes.

My 4 year old daughter has been telling me that she wants to cut her hair. She has hair to her butt. She tells everyone she has "princess" hair. I work at a hair salon but I have never cut her hair before. She told me that she wants to cut her "princess hair and give it to a kid with no hair.

Well, then it's time to cut her hair. My 4 yr had very long hair up to her butt. We were ready to cut her hair for her 5th birthday in April, and donate it to Locks of Love. Well, let's just say, she couldn't wait any longer and decided to cut it herself. When she came down and said "How does it look mommy"? I was in total shock! I couldn't shut my mouth closed. She cut her hair on her own. Yes, she did! She told me she couldn't wait until her birthday and wanted to donate her hair now. Well, the following day we went to the salon to fix her hair, she got a cute bob hair cut. Her hair is down to her chin. We couldn't donate her hair because it was all chopped up, but her heart was in the right place. I love it now and we get ready for pre-school much quicker, since I don't have to deal with anymore knots. It worked out in the end. :)

you shouldn't cut all of it off, just because she might not like how she looks with very short hair. if she talks about her 'princess hair' all the time, it means she is proud of it and likes to show it off. give her a little trim and make her feel like its a big change, and see how she reacts to it.

Cut it...doesn't need to be super short the first time..cut half of it off and see how she likes it. If she wants to cut more off, then do that.

She wants to do this for a good cause and I think that is to be encouraged, even if it does mean losing a bit of hair for a little bit of time.

She might just want it shorter. A simple, straight cut at her shoulders might work. It'll be long enough you can still put it up in pigtails or braids or a ponytail and short enough that it isn't a hassle.

look online for kids hairstyles, google it. if it were my child, id let her pick what she wanted. shes only 4 so its not like shes going to pick a mohawk and want to dye it green. if she wants it really short, she should be able to get it done that way. you obviously like her hair long so maybe once its short she'll realize she liked it long as well. or if she doesnt then look at it this way, itll be easier to take care of and a whole lot less hot in the summer. plus if she gets it cut really short you can dontate the hair to locks of love.

Most salons have books that you can look through. I'm just curious, if her hair is that long would you consider donating it to one of the charities that make wigs for children with cancer? Go to a salon and they will have books. But grab a Sunday paper and just look threw the adds. There are all kinds of adds that show kids clothing... You can look at them and have her start getting ideas. Same with some of the websites that show off childrens clothing.

Remember to save a clipping for the baby book, if this is her first hair cut.

If she really wants it short just remind her that it will not go up in a pony tail that way. But it will take some of the weight off her had and let her be cooler. She could even lose a couple of pounds LOL.

I'm a man currently growing my hair out from my last cut, which was with a number 4 guard on the sides and back, and the front/top was trimmed to fit with scissors. It's been almost 4 months since my last cut. I eventually want to end up with hair similar to Dave Grohl's (Foo Fighters) style. Other than obviously just letting it grow, is there a cut that will help it grow into that style? Or just let it grow then get it cut into shape?

Just do it. you can always grow it out. I change my hair constantly and doen't understand it when people have the same style for 40 years. Mix it up! I just cut bangs for the first time in 15 years and everyone loved it and said that it made me look years younger (not such a great thing, since I am nearly 30 and I don't really want to look 19). But I love the change, people's reactions, and the different things I can do with it. If you are too timid about it, then you will probably talk yourself out of it. Just dive in! It will be fun! Take the pictures you have to your stylist. And when she is done cutting, have her style it. It is a little more money, but so worth it. I made a huge change once and having my stylist style for me was so worth it! She taught me what I could do with it and very little time. I needed a straight iron for that style and she gave me pointers on which one to buy. She was great! I spent maybe 3 minutes straightening the new do and that was all I needed to do.

It's really cute for summer because the texturizing makes it kinda messy and then all you have to do is rub a little pomade through your hair and it has a cute messy dirty surfer look to it. if i were you every now and then spray hairspray on your hair and from about your ear-level gently push upwards with your fingers

this may help to give it a bit of body on your "flat hair days"

what you also could do is have curls in it or make it wavey,

if you are sick of your annoying side fringe then i would clip it over the top of your head and leave the rest of your hair down

this usually makes quite a nice affect

but if i want to have a different style have a high pony like i do but keep the fringe down
