My 4 year old wants to get her hair cut...?

My 4 year old daughter has been telling me that she wants to cut her hair. She has hair to her butt. She tells everyone she has "princess" hair. I work at a hair salon but I have never cut her hair before. She told me that she wants to cut her "princess hair and give it to a kid with no hair.

Have any ideas of how short I should cut it?

Thanks for the commenets

My best friend past away from cancer. Also, I am expecting triplets March 17th (St.Patrick's day)

Well, then it's time to cut her hair. My 4 yr had very long hair up to her butt. We were ready to cut her hair for her 5th birthday in April, and donate it to Locks of Love. Well, let's just say, she couldn't wait any longer and decided to cut it herself. When she came down and said "How does it look mommy"? I was in total shock! I couldn't shut my mouth closed. She cut her hair on her own. Yes, she did! She told me she couldn't wait until her birthday and wanted to donate her hair now. Well, the following day we went to the salon to fix her hair, she got a cute bob hair cut. Her hair is down to her chin. We couldn't donate her hair because it was all chopped up, but her heart was in the right place. I love it now and we get ready for pre-school much quicker, since I don't have to deal with anymore knots. It worked out in the end. :)

you shouldn't cut all of it off, just because she might not like how she looks with very short hair. if she talks about her 'princess hair' all the time, it means she is proud of it and likes to show it off. give her a little trim and make her feel like its a big change, and see how she reacts to it.

aww, how sweet. sure cut it off. especially if she wants to. maybe mid shoulders. what ever you and she think would look best. your daughter sounds adorable :)

It's only hair and will grow back.

Cut it...doesn't need to be super short the first time..cut half of it off and see how she likes it. If she wants to cut more off, then do that.

She wants to do this for a good cause and I think that is to be encouraged, even if it does mean losing a bit of hair for a little bit of time.

Cut 10 inches off and then donate it to locks of love.

if 10 inches is too little, then just cut as much as to her shoulders

if 10 inches is too short on her hair, just dont cut it

Well, it's up to her. Ask how much she wants gone and get some short styles that she likes. My sister just had short, bobbed hair to her ears at that age and it was easy for her to take care of. Good for her for wanting to donate her hair. I wanted to donate some of mine to my friend who has alopecia areata (no hair on her head) but mine was too short (it's only about 2 inches long, it's not long at all).

Well that is so nice of her. Just chop it off to her shoulders and donate the rest.

Sounds like you are raising a wonderful little girl to be so caring at her age. I would let her look at some pictures and the two of you decide on a cut that still make her feel like the "princess" she seems to be.

awww that is great ur having triplets on the luckiest day of the year- Congrats!

I think that u should ask her how she wants it also u should donate the hair to locks of love- http://www.locksoflove.org/

And if she doesnt want to decide i would say cute bangs across the top of her head and hair to her shoulders.. nice for a 4 y/o

I would take the minimum off, which is 10, 11 inches for locks of love?? That way she can give to that organization as soon as possible again. I cut my hair short, grow it long, donate it, this is my cycle, its a good cycle. How wonderful to be near a child who is already so self actualized.
