Nice hair cut? see details...?

okay so im looking for a nice hair cut for back to school but i have some problems:

*my hair is really long(it comes to the middle of my back) and my mom doesnt want me to get it too short(maybe a little below my shoulders or 1/2 and inche above)

*my hair is really thick so if it's too short then it wouldnt look right

what kind of cut would be nice?i kinda like the short emo cuts...links would be nice

I have the exact same problem with the long hair and thickness and my mom wouldnt let me cut mine either. So i went out and bought these amazing curlers and now it looks amazing and soft. i suggest curlers!
